A CHURCH THAT IS
JUST A CHURCH
Maybe
you've noticed that a lot of churches today are involved in all kinds of
business and social ventures, but involved very little in teaching the word of
God. Some are quite proud of the fact that they place little emphasis on
doctrinal matters.
Our emphasis is
spiritual—not material or social (1 Corinthians 11:22, 34). For that reason, our main concern is that we
teach, and abide in, the doctrine of Jesus Christ (2 Timothy 3:16; 4:3, 4; 2
John 9). This requires that we pay close attention to the Bible, and treat it
as our sole guide in spiritual matters, not adding to it, or taking away from
it; not mixing in the doctrines and commandments of men (1 Peter 4:11; 1
Corinthians 4:6; Revelation 22:18, 19; Galatians 1:6-9; Matthew 7:21-23; 15:8,
9; 21:23-26). Please read these Scriptures.
It is our aim to be the
very same church as the one we read about in the New Testament (Matthew 16:18;
Ephesians 1:22, 23; 5:23; Romans 16:16). We do not claim perfection in our attempts
to follow the doctrine of Christ, but neither do we use our imperfection as an
excuse. We are always willing to examine ourselves regarding whether or not we
are in ‘the faith’ (2 Corinthians 13:5; Acts 17:11). This is the ‘faith’, or
‘doctrine’ that our Creator has delivered to us once for all, which we are to
contend for (Jude 3). This is the ‘faith’ to which a great company of the
Jewish priests became obedient (Acts 6:7).
The
inspired Word of God clearly tells us that the Lord's church is "a spiritual
house" (1 Peter 2:5). We are told how to conduct ourselves in the Lord’s
church, which was designed to uphold the Truth (1 Tim. 3:15). John 4:23, 24
tells us that, if we want to properly love and serve our Creator, we must
become ‘true worshippers’ in His sight (John 14:15). What if we began adding to
His Word, and/or taking away from His Word? Notice more carefully the profound
Bible principle: Deuteronomy 4:1, 2; Proverbs 30:5, 6; Revelation 22:18, 19.
What if we start using human names and creeds that God has not authorized in
His Word? Study carefully Galatians 1:6-9. Again, are we examining ourselves
with God’s inspired Word? Acts 17:11.
Jesus
tells us that we must abide in His Word in order to properly be His disciples,
and that this is the only way we can know the Truth, so that the Truth can make
us free from sin and death (John 8:31, 32; Romans 8:2). If God’s Word does not
have ‘free course’ in us, that is, ’no place’ in us, then we will not be
interested in following only His Truth (John 8:37). Do we have a ‘love’ for
God’s Truth? II Thessalonians 2:10-12.
If
you are looking for a church that is merely a "front" for a social
club, or agency, a place in which you are entertained, we're not for you. But, if
you share our interest in seeking to worship God in spirit and Truth, and in
searching the Scriptures in order to learn what the will of the Lord is, then
we’d like to hear from you.
